A burst of colour, these Hibiscus blooms are handpainted in Pattachitra, a traditional art of Orissa. Traditionally, the art was done on scrolls used as visual aids by travelling storytellers. As they travelled villages, narrating mythological stories, they unrolled the handpainted scrolls that depicted each scene in detail. 
Today the demand for the stories and scrolls has dwindled and artists paint on every use objects to keep the art alive. Artisans now narrate short and simple stories on home decor pieces.
Handpainted on polished wood, that is treated and also sealed. As with everything handmade, the coasters have some imperfections, that add to their unique charm.
